Mend Kenmore 116.73076 Vacuum Canister Cord

How do I get the cord to recoil?

On my Kenmore canister vacuum the plug broke off and the cord completed recoiled into the machine. When I took it apart I could get the cord out, but I can't figure out how to rewind it so it will retract.

Any suggestions, would be appreciate.

Easy way? Rewind it with the plug off, so that you can pass the cord through the reel bracket easily. Slide out the cord reel from the canister body and wind the reel up 6 times in the direction toward the front of the canister. Next, feed the end of the cord through the hole in the vac where it exits the base. Make sure the reel locks the cord in place and put the plug back on. Then, put the cord reel back in, make sure it works freely. Lastly, put the cover back on.
