My top load Whirlpool washer starts a load by filling with water, but then it will set for a couple of hours before agitating, draining, and rinsing. It has an extended rinse control but we have it turned off. After a couple of hours the machine starts and finishes it's cycle. Where should I start trouble shooting this problem?
When it stopped I tried wiggling the knob, no change. I also tried the other knobs with no success. I found that it does this when starting the regular cycle from the "regular" load starting point. If I started the regular cycle at the "heavy" starting point it appears to run fine.
Any other ideas?

JP, I believe it is stopping in the same place each time. Sometimes it restarts after 45minutes to an hour and and some cases it's 3 or 4 hours. I'll try your suggestion and see if there is any change.

Hello,
Does the timer stop in the same location all the time? Try jiggling the timer knob to see if that gets it going. If so, the switches inside the timer are bad.
