hi, i have a p reg ford escort, i can lock it from the driver side but i cant unlock it, i keep having to unlock it from the passenger side, how can i fix this?
had same problem. tried the sapre key and it worked. just need a new key mate. ford escort finesse 2000

its simple,you can buy a door lock kit which you can simply repair your own lock,inside the barrel is several different numbered pieces,simply write them down in order you take them out,replace with the new ones,job done

i currently have the very same problem and at the moment i know its not the central lock server and i have noticed the barrel does not push the door mek down far enough today im going to try and change the whole door mek and keep my current key and barrel i will keep you posted if this resolves the problem i will fix this problem and keep you posted

I have the same problem but I believe that the previous owner had changed the driver side door lock ie can lock it but not unlock it. Try your key in any other ford and I bet you can lock it!!
To save yourself some money just simply swap the passenger side for the drivers side!! At least then you wont look like an Idi*t everytime you have to unlock your car!!

it will be one of two thing's.
1 A worn key
2 a worn barrel
Both very common problems with ford locks. Go to a key cutting place and get them to cut you a non chipped key. If that key then opens your locks ok you need a new chipped key made if not you need to get the lock repair kit from ford, its about 20 pounds ish and they should build it to your key code for a small fee and just replace the lock.
