There is a plastic pin on the lid. When the lid is closed, the pin closes a switch which allows the spin cycle to operate. This prevents the spin cycle from operating while the lid is open. Make sure the pin makes contact with the switch when the lid is closed. I pushed the switch down with a screwdriver and the spin cycle began. I was careful to NOT TOUCH OR INTERFERE WITH THE SPINNING TUB. I unplugged the machine and adjusted the switching mechanism. Over the years, the switch on my machine had loosened. I tried this before I pulled the machine out and opened the back. It was a big time saver.
