How can I fix a Yaris 1.0 2002 radio/cassette?

I own a Yarris 1.0 2002 radio/cassette player.

I inquired at the Toyota garage by telephone if the radio could be repaired. They said it could not be repaired but would have to have a new unit for the price of £689.73.

The model items name and model details have not been included in the owner's manual. I know it is not a Dolby.

The symptoms. The radio reception sounds as if the aerial needs adjusting and also, that there is only reception from the right hand speaker.

note : Dolby is not the name of a radio but of a recording system...If your radio is one of the modern , plug-in ISO units , then it is possible that the aerial + speakers have come adrift from the sockets at the rear of the casing. If you have the radio code and the extractors to remove the radio from the dashboard, then it might be worth taking out , checking , then putting back again. (note : when it is out you can find the MAKE , MODEL + SERIAL NUMBERS on the radio casing)If that doesn`t cure it, then take the radio out again and wire it up on the workbench to a battery and speakers and that will prove whether it`s the radio that is faulty. If all this sounds a bit technical , then perhaps the cheapest+easiest option is to buy a new or working replacement. ( Try Ebay )
