How can I fix my Sovereign strimmer?

I have a Sovereign strimmer, 16 inch, 25cc, made in 1998. The drive shaft no longer makes a contact with the cable head. I have had it apart and there does not seem to be a way of fixing it. The "engine" end seems sound but the cable head seems to slip off the drive shaft at the cable head end. I guess I will have to replace the whole drive shaft, casing, control trigger etc but according to the label it would seem it was manufactured in North Carolina. I am reluctant to order it from there - it is over three foot long and could cost a fortune!

Any ideas;
whether it can be fixed?
whether I can get a part in the UK?

Get small piece of metal to fit into where the rod goes into the engine end just enough to push the rod forward into the head, I had had the same problem and that is what fixed mine, connects perfectly now, and works well

I had the same problem last year but managed to buy the part from a company in the Midlans. At that time they had and a handfull left.. If I can find the company again I will let you know.

Richard, You will not be able to fix it. The head of the strimmer is moving away from the head of the curved casing for the core and that is why it will not turn. I have recently had the same problem and have purchased a new casing. The Sovereign is a very good strimmer from the USA and if you could locate a new casing it will be worth doing. The casing costs about £48. I purchased the last one from my source and they stated that they did not think they would get any more because of the age of the equipment. You could try and acquire one that is being sold for parts.
