Mend Yamaha XT250 Starts Fine Clutch

how to fix my 1982 yamaha xt 250 motorcycle?

my 1982 yamaha xt 250 starts up just fine. when i pull in the clutch it is still running, then when i shift into 1st gear it kills the motor. i have tried this several times with the same result. any ideas how to fix? jerry

the problem will be the side stand switch its etier stcking or faulty simply bypass it by connecting or disconnecting the wires that go to it.

have you checked if it has a switch on the side stand to stop you riding off with it down.it may be sticking.
