JP or anyone else, RE: my kenmore 70 washing machine?

I didnt hear the motor when the machine got to the drain cycle... Doesnt the machine drain before the high speed spin? If it didnt drain, than it is not the lid switch??? I pulled off the drain hose, and all the water came out (I was ready for this with a bucket) Now I am going to open up the machine and examine the pump. If it was the pump, though, wouldnt I hear the motor trying to pump? Maybe its the timer? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

One other thing to mention, If you decide to jump the lid switch make sure you keep the wire away from the cabinet as in will become a "live" wire. Or you can use a piece of coated house wire and then just strip the ends and stick them into the plug. If your not comfortable with that you can always use an ohm meter.

You should be able to hear the motor trying to start if your pump is jammed, yes. However, if your lid switch is bad your machine will not drain or spin, it will just act dead. Listen to the switch and see if you can hear it clicking when it closes. If you have an ohm meter you can ohm out the switch. If you don't, you can bypass it by unplugging it and using a paper clip as a jumper across the wires and then seeing if it will drain/spin. This is a common problem in these machines. Hope this helps, I'm off to work but will be on later on.
