Mend Lowes Mower Running Deck

12HP 38" Lowes Riding Mower running slow!?

I have an old 12HP 38" deck Lowe's brand Riding Mower. It starts fine and the blade turns, but I can't get it to go as fast as it used to go. I could push mow my yard faster than this thing will go. Any advice??

The engine is speeding as fast as it can go. The mower just isn't moving as fast as it should!

Make sure that when you give the engine full throttle, the engine is speeding as fast as it is meant to - slackness in the throttle cable could mean that the engine isn't going as quick as it should. These engines have governors to stop them revving too hard - maybe this has been fiddled with at some time?
