Sarah are you implying all women are stupid when it comes to DIY?

It will be cheaper to replace the whole fitting, these usually come with instructions. But as said below mark which wires go where and turn the lighting breakers OFF first.

I wouldnt worry too much about the cables for one night.

If they were to touch together all that would happen is the light would come on.

Well the switch line anyway.

If you do anymore please turn the lighting breakers off first.

The better pull switches MK etc have a joiner about 3 inches from the top of the cord so as you can replace it without any taking apart at all

I really would suggest an electrician or handyman.

Thanks for reply Jon. I know this will sound stupid (I am a woman) but do I need to replace the whole of the plastic piece that gets screwed onto the other half of plastic on the ceiling? It is the bathroom light, what a pain, I only wanted to change the cord!

Don't bother trying to put it back together Sarah - you really need a new one. If its a light switch thats broken then buy a two way one.....if its the shower pull switch you'll need a double pole one. Note the position of any wires after the electric is turned off by the terminal name...two way switch terminals are marked com, L1, L2, etc.
