The gas hob will have its own separate mains supply for the igniter, so that is all that needs to be switched off. I had the same problem and here is a fix I performed. My hob has only one switch which requires a manual press to ignite:
- Switched off mains supply to gas hob
- removed plastic push button – just pulls off. Removed hex nut holding switch pin
- squirted wd40 down top of switch spindle into switch body
- tapped switch lightly and gave it several vigorous pushes
- replaced button and switched power back on
- presto = works fine again!
This is an easy fix to try and safe as it doesn’t involve removing the gas hob – you must have a Corgi fitter for that. Wd40 is great stuff and solves problems like this where corrosion or debris is causing the switch to short out.
