Gas problems?

we have a touring caravan which we heat with the blue bottled gas but over Easter we found that the fire was burning really low and the gas flames for the cooker where very low too...we managed to make them higher by shaking the gas bottle could it be that we need to change to the red bottle gas, it was quite cold, or do you think it could be something more serious? we need to know asap as we've still got a few weeks of warranty left... thanks

John is right red best all seasons but he missed one point after fitting propane regulator to the tube you must test for leaks even though you tightened the circlip. Mix neat liquid soap with small amount of water and brush over the pipe joining the regulator. Turn gas on and if it leaks it will blow bubble/s.

Blue bottled gas is butane - great in summer, hopeless in winter. Red bottled gas is propane which is great at all temperatures. The bottle regulators are different of course but they are dead easy to change. So, why doesn't everyone use propane? Butane has higher calorific value than propane which is why some prefer it. End of science lesson!
