Our P reg Fiat Punto recently had to have a new clutch and bell housing. 6 weeks later a bearing in the gear box has gone. Is this just bad luck or could something been messed up when the clutch etc was replaced?

Clutch and gearbox problems on Punto's are notorious. I was told that by my garage when I bought mine as it was making some funny noises. They advised me to take it back and get a refund but the dealer wouldn't allow it so then the dealer repaired the gearbox bearing that needed doing. I think that if there is a problem with your gearbox or cluth the other will give out one way or another soon after. I had the gearbox bearing repaired on my 2000 Punto and 6 months later it needed a new clutch. Now that has been done, 8 months after that, I need a new bearing in the gearbox again.....
I think that newer model Puntos are as notorious for clutches and gearboxes as the old Panda's and Uno's were for dodgy electrics!

Why was the bellhousing changed?
If the bellhousing,s been changed they would have had to strip your gearbox so if they did,nt rebuild it properly could be down to the repairer!!!
