increasing memory on my PC?

I have System Mechanic 7 installed on my computer. It is telling me that I am low on memory. Also, it takes at least 5 minutes to get on the internet. The computer is running very slow, when I do a full system scan with System Mechanic and fix the problems, the computer still runs slow. Help!!

You don't give many clues about what PC you have or its OS. (In fact none.) If you have a PC under fives years old running Windows XP SP2 then you need at least 512MB RAM or it WILL run slow.

To find out how much you have run Belarc advisor which you can find by entering Belarc in Google or Yahoo. If you do not have alt least 512MBytes then you need to add more physical memory.

Another thing that you can do (in addition to more memory) is to to defragment your hard disk. Again look up Defrag on the web.

Most likely your machine is running low on memory because you have plenty of processes running. You probably ask yourself.....hmm I don't have anything open, just the internet. trust me. you probably do

If you have windows
1. Click start
2. Click run
3. Type in "Msconfig" in the field provided.(do not include quotes)
4. Click the tab to the far top right that says "Startup"

The list you are now looking at, is all of the programs that turn on every time you power on your computer. You can play around with this but disabling all is my prefrence.

Do fear messing anything up in this startup tab, you can always come back ot the way you had it before.

lots of things can slow down a computer such as spyware, adaware, viruses ect. make sure you have protection against these. more memory will increase speed but spyware ect will slow it down.
