Before removing links from a strap check where the watch face sits on your wrist. Links have to removed equally from both sides, also check the clasp to how the strap is connected to the clasp, there should be fine adjustment positions to help get the watch to fit snugly. The links are connected with pins, these have a certain amount of spring loading to stop them coming out when being worn. It requires a smaller, equally strong pin to push them out, pliers would be necessary to apply the correct pressure. Once a link has been removed, check the fit and remove another from the opposite side. Final adjustment should be done at the clasp, these are simple spring clips and do not come out.
Be carefull on modern braclets new mechanisums are being deployed to stop home alterations. My modern Seiko has very small additional tension pins along with the pins, if these get lost the braclet would come lose.
