Mend Ford Fiesta Problem Times

Clutch problem, 1993, ford fiesta?

The biting point changed many times over a few weeks. Its now stuck to biting with pedal fully down making gear change almost impossible. A friend tells me i have to reset cable adjuster above pedal. Had a look up there, cant see much, am puzzled. Cable intact, plastic teeth all good. Help?

Umm. Thanx guys for info. Was hoping for cheap repair, but had the feeling the prob was the clutch end, not the pedal end. Thanx again.

this model fiesta had major problems with clutch ratchets. most likely that clutch is nearing end of its life. at this point, I found that ratchet would jump teeth. replace ratchet or,if clutch has near 50,000 miles on it, New Clutch!!!

Hi Mark. There is a chance the bolt in the clutch release arm has sheared. This release arm holds the thrust bearing inside the bell housing. You may be able to check this is the problem visually.
On the bell housing where the clutch cable connects, is a lever with the cable attached to it. That lever has a shaft that goes inside the bell housing and attached to the shaft is the clutch release bearing. The bolt may have sheared here. Look at the arm on the end of the cable, there should be at least 4 to 5 inches of clearance between the bell-housing where the cable goes through, and the end of the lever. If there is only a very short distance, then that indicates that the problem is to do with the bolt, or the release bearing itself. Either way it is a gearbox out job. If the bolt is sheared, you will have to get the broken part out of the shaft and fit a replacement. This bolt is shouldered on the end of the thread, so must be replaced with same.
It will be prudent to check the bearing and shaft for wear and replace as necessary, also a look at the clutch for condition while it is easily accessible.
