Mend Renault Laguna 2000 RX Ignition Key

renault laguna 2000 RX 1998 R reg ignition key?

I have lost my igntion key
Renault main dealer says that a new key will only open the doors, not start it without reprogamming
Anyone know if this is true, and can I get it done without taking the car to the dealer ?

if it is a broken key take it to some local key cut they will remove the chip in the old key and put it in the new cut key for you and it will open the door and ignition
