car heater- citreon xsara v reg?

my heater for the windscreen smells fishy and mists up the windscreen instead off clearing it when i put it on hot but ok when on cold and blows out smoke

That could be leaking coolant from the heater matrix. Another indicator is wetness on the passenger side carpet.
