Mend Dyson DC07 Vacuum Motor

Dyson DC07 motor quits?

My Dyson DC07's motor cuts out after about 2 minutes of use. Let it sit for a minute and it starts up agin for 2 minutes. The filters are new. Any ideas would be a help.

Thank You

Yes, sounds like a new motor is needed. If the old one is arcing it's probably a winding gone in the armature.

hi I have a simular problem except the motor dosnt stop, just smells of burning and when you take the motor filter off seems to be arking really bad. I guess it needs a new motor any other suggestions?

I have a DC07 which kept on getting clogged with dust collecting in the top, coloured part of the cyclone.

Basically, if you take the cyclone off the bin, you should be able to see up from the bottom all the way to the top thru the centre column - a torch is handy.

I ended up taking the screws (Torx screws) out of the top lid of the cyclone and looking inside. This is a complete pig of a job as you have to fiiddle with the lid release mechanism to get it off and fiddle even more to get it back on. The top was absolutely full of dust & dog hairs!

You can't take the cyclone apart any more than that - the top half is bonded to the bottom, not screwed.

I contacted Dyson, got hold of someone technical and explained the problem. I pointed out that Dyson state categorically in their adverts that their machines don't clog.

Despite the machine being out of warranty Dyson sent a new cyclone, which had had a small design change in the area of the vortex tubes.

It's also worth mentioning that Dyson offer fixed price servicing of £65 including all parts and labour, done in your home and with a years warranty. When our motor packed up, the cost of a new motor and filter was £60. Dyson did the job for £65 PLUS fitted a load more bits that were beginning to wear. I ended up with about £120 worth of bits for my money.

Did that help?

Mr. Cyclone,

I've actually gotten the cyclone bin apart and cleaned it.I think it's major problem may be pet hair and dander. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Thanks

have you been using it to pick up plaster dust/ building rubble?
a lot of the time the cyclone above the bin get blocks up,see if you can borrow a cyclone assembly from another (same model) dyson to test (not easy to unblock) sounds like it needs a service / unblock / clean, The motor will only cut so many times before major motor damage is done.

By putting it back together with the new filters it died again. So took the OEM filters and cleaned them, and installed them. The wife vacuumed the first and second floor without a problem. I got my money back for the new filters. Go figure.

Here's what I've done next. I removed the filters and the dirt canaster from the machine. Pluged it in, turned it on, and it's been running with the floor brush engaged for the past 20 minutes without a problem. Next I"ll start adding parts, one by one to see if the restriction effects it.

Later,
Chris

Yes I've found this one also. It doesn't really act like the motor is overheating. No loss of rpm's, or suction before it cuts out. No burning smell. Possibly a bad switch???

The Dyson motor is cooled by air passing through the filter that is hidden below a plastic cover beneath the dust drum - the filter housing has to be prised off with a screwdriver and few people know its there....have you discovered this one?
