sound recorder application problem?

i have windows xp and when i access the sound recorder under start>all progs>acessories>entertainment>sound recorder. i get the following message "another application is recordin audio . stop recordin with this other application and try again etc.." i dont recall using another application how do i find out what this other one is and how do i stop recording with it? many thanks for any info , cheers Daz.
