problem with Zanussi jetstream 1200?

I have a problem in that the machine will not start but there is no error message.
The start /pause button is flashing on and off but nothing happens when you press the button.
I cannot open the door and can only get the button to stop flashing if I press the delay button.
However after a short while it revets back to flasing on and off.
