Hi Margaret
I have just had the same error (err06) on my Brandt, where the drum did not spin at all. After much searching I found a couple of German forums, which I translated on Google, and found error 6 is a motor failure, and is almost always fixed by fitting new brushes in the motor. I found the brushes online for about £20. Fitted them, and it didn't work. I suspected that this was not the fault when I removed the (eight year) old brushes and they were only half worn!
After further investigation I found a broken wire in the multi-pin plug on the side of the motor (the 3rd one up from the bottom - they're all black). I remade the connection, and the machine now works fine. And I have new brushes too! Here's to another eight years trouble free washing.
My advice is to check the wiring and plugs first, and slip the brushes out to have a look at them. If there's more than a couple of mm left on them, and they're not pitted, then it's probably not that. If your motor has burnt out (unlikely) then it's a Selni motor you need.
I hope this helps you fix your machine, and good luck.
