renault megane 1.6 service light and airbag light on?

when you look under the seats and get no joy hear a noise from steering wheel you need Clock Spring when the air bag light come on with service light only for megane mk 2 if the air bag light come on with out service light look under the driver seat and see wire move them in and out. only works when one light on. not 2

If the airbag light is ON showing a fault, naturally the service light will also be on. Check under the driver seat on RHD model where you will locate a block with wires both sides, (In & out) Likely there is a bad connection here. Press the block from both ends to make the connection which when made will see the airbag light go out, Secure the block with a plastic tie to prevent it loosening again. Dont knock Renault, they're great cars.

That's what my son did on mine Chris Burrell and it's gone off I've got a wire hanging down under my Drivers seat and for the life of me Carnot see we're it's come off it looks like it slides on somewhere but we cannot see we're can any one help me yours. Yvonne Newton

Have had the same problem with Airbag warning light on my Wife's 56 plate coupe. Renault garage performed free diagnosis (long story) ,identified an issue with rear belt tensioner and quoted £500 for new part of the loom. Seems common problem with the connectors. Have tried cleaning each connector and applying conductive grease which seems to solve the problems at least for a few months and gets it through the Mot

i got a diagnostic carried out, it said the seatbelt pre tensioner circuit was faulty. seatbelt tensioner and airbag are linked. thats why both lights come on

Hi, Can I ask why you need to locate the module? Knowing Renault each airbag will have it's own control module near the bag.

where is the airbag module located on a megane 2008? I ve looked everywhere, so has the machanic, and renault is no good either, said did not know, does anyone know where it is located? renault said the modules have been moved about so were not sure.

We have a 1996 2L Megane coupe and had this problem. Older cars in New Zealand need to pass a warrant of fitness check with registered service providers every 6 months.No warrant until the airbag light could be switched off. We went to an auto electrician and he identified problems with 2 sensors and the control unit. We then decided on a 2nd opinion from Renault. They reckon they fixed some wiring under the seat but couldn't get the airbag light to switch off.Their answer was a new control unit at a cost of approx $NZ2,000. My son lives in Paris and we could have bought the part through him for much less but he found this link. I disconnected the negative terminal followed the instructions and it worked....the airbag light now switches itself off. Thanks heaps.

I am new to this forum, got my megane `03 plate over the weekend. The service light and the airbag light is on havent tried anything yet but its bugging me being on! the car has just had a service and drives perfect.

id never buy another renault ever again i have had mine for 5 years now and has all of the above, a to top it off the turbo blew, which cost £1000 to replace, so anyone want to buy one cheap... i found kwik fit reset the warning light and they charge £25 which is better than renault with £79 per hour + vat

i managed to put service indicator and spanner out
warning light out.but service warning light and air bag
light still on.

I have had my piece of sh*t Megane for almost 5 years. Within that time i have had more electronic parts replaced than my visa cares to remember. The light (air bag) has been on for years. I used to wiggle the wires under either the driver or passenger seat but this now doesn't seem to work. I think I will try the disconnect battery and see if this work so that I can sell the thing.

hello,I had problem with Scenic 1.4, service, airbag light on dashboard would not go off after been serviced, check under drivers seat for wiring and push connectors together,this worked for me as all went back to normal.Wiring gets knocked when moving seat and hoovering car and probably speed bumps knocks it out of sync.Hope this works ,if not try auto electrician.

My megane 03 has the airbag and service lights on as well. Just been quoted £75 per hour to investigate the cause, by a Renault dealer.
Thanks to the answers above, i will try to find a solution before forking out double figures.

I have a megane 2L cab 2006, i had the same problem with my airbag service light coming on, but i think it was somehow due to my windscreen water level being low, because as soon as it actually ran out and i topped it up, the warning lights went off!!! Has anyone tried to do this with any success?

I had the same problem, here is what I did.So far so good. First of all make sure you have your radio security code available before doing this, otherwise your radio cannot be reset. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, make sure that there is no contact while the terminal is disconnected from the battery,this can be done by placing an insulated material between terminal and the battery clamp, so there is absolutely no contact. This allows the Airbag system capacitors to discharge and reset.Wait at least 10 minutes. Now reconnect battery terminal.

The displays will all be off. Don't panic! Insert the key card and start the car then switch off to get the diplays working again. Now reset the radio as per instructions in the booklet. Unfortunately trip meter will be reset to zero as well as range etc,etc.

Airbag service light should now be off. This has worked so far. Good Luck.

i have exactly the same fault on my 05 megane the problem is caused by the airbag cable being either un connected or broken at the steering wheel airbag if it requires rewiring then renault say £80 if the ribbon cable has snapped then a staggering £500 repair by renault also if warning light is on then all airbags are disabled so very worrying but the car runs perfect with airbag light and service light on.

I have exactly the same problem on my 53 reg Megane.
Airbag light and service light is on but car runs fine plus the same as Michael, mine has a scraping noise from under the steering wheel.

What do you suggest?

mine is coupled with a scraping noise from under the steering wheel, have been informed my air bag clock is broken and needs to be replaced ..hope this helps...off toE-bay now.

I have same problem on my renault 05, I'm a woman and not that great with cars and also don't want to pay Renaults prices, is the solution with the wd40 easy? Can you give me pointers on what to look for?? Also my autolights are de-activated how do I re-activate them??

I had service light and airbag light on the problem was a bad connection on the seat beat tenion unit a connection at the side of the drivers seat wd40 plus a quick spray on the connections under the drivers seat problem solved...thank god..renault wanted £90

I have a Megane hatchback 03 plate and the above solution of holding the button in does NOT work-Renault quoted me a scandolous £33 + vat to reset it. Still havnt found solution and refuse to the above amount to rip off renault.

I believe you will need to go through renault service,I had the same problem month ago and now it appear back,when I went for service while still in warranty they fix it for free,what they told me is that the sensor is faulty,and need to be reset,and the problem occurs if you put the passanger airbag off while the engine is runing.If you find a way to fix it without service please let me know.

To reset the service light. First press the button on the control stalk until the servive due message appears. Then you must press and hold the same button until the message stars to flash. Continue to hold the button until it resets and you get a new message xxxxx miles to next service.
