Very probably the motor carbon brushes have worn away. Easy to check. Remove the mains lead before doing anything else! Remove the top lid. Locate the motor sitting on top of the drum. The motor brushes(small black plastic part about 2 sq cm) are held in place with a plastic clip-use a small screwdriver to release the clip. Remove the wire. Inspect the brush. If the carbon brush is less than 2cm long and not making good contact with the armature and moves freely up and down inside the holder then replace them. One on top and one directly opposite underneath. Parts available online or local repairers.
