Well I bought mine on EBay and thought i had a bit of a bargain. However I have the cutting out after about five minutes which does focus the order I hoover in!. I have tried the various suggestions including washing out the cyclone. A fair bit of dust came out. Filters are cleaned and the inside of the cyclone checked for blockages and it still cuts out. Not sure what I can do now.

This seems to be a common problem as ours cuts out too. The discussion thread does not really clarify what the problem is, whether it is the thermocoupling or a blockage

We bought our DC07 four weeks ago, and in that time it cut out five times.
I 'phoned Dyson Tuesday afternoon and the service engineer arrived Wednesday lunchtime. He tested it and said the on/off switch was arcing and replaced it. Job done.

Has anyone contacted Dyson about this problem? I did and was told the warranty was not covered because I bought on eBay!! They still refuse to recognize there is a problem, just want me to send it back so they can repair it! So if you bought from a "recognized" dealer, start inundating Dyson with these complaints. I wish you all luck. Dyson will have to come up with another excuse!

Hello,

I think you are completely missing the point of the thermocouple. I strongly suspect that it is working correctly. I had the same problem and did all of the above except remove the thermocouple and still had the same problem. The one thing I didn't do was to separate the clear dirt can from the yellow can holder section and take air blast and blow out all the holes in the yellow can holder section. Once I did that the problem was solved.
(I think Dyson confused customers by claiming that a Dyson will not clog up).

What was happening was the motor got hot because the holes were blocked and it had to work harder to maintain suction. More work=more heat =motor shutdown. When the motor got hot the thermocouple did its job and shut down the motor. By inserting a thin membrane between the thermocouple and the motor, you have effectively insulated and circumvented the motor safety device that prevents the motor from overheating and burning up. Since your post is a couple of years old, I would be interested in finding out the end result on your machine.

Hope this helps.

Mine was cutting out after about 3 minutes. Cleaned the cyclone, renewed the filters and it still cut out. Suction at this stage was fantastic however! I suspected a faulty thermocouple and had a go at finding it in the motor housing - remove the four Torx screws under the machine (one of them is well hidden down a shaft so longbladed Torx T15 screwdriver is required) and the motor housing can be hauled out from the top. The motor is held in the housing only by the circular rubber mount - more hauling and the motor will pull out of the housing. Disconnect the two power connectors.
The thermocouple is held in a white plastic housing screwed with one T 15 screw to the motor housing. Not being able to find a replacement, I merely shorted it out with a piece of wire. A botch job? Possibly, but the machine now works perfectly and hasn't caught fire yet!

Exactly the same problem. Stripped and cleaned everything a couple of times but problem continued. Concluded that the termocouple in the white plastic carrier attached to the motor was faulty but was unable to find where a new one could be purchased from - as a 'temporary' solution I inserted a thin insulating membrane between the thermocouple and the motor casing - the machine now operates without cutting out. Does anyone know a source of new thermocouples? - otherwise you can try to find a junked machine to strip one off .

Hi Mike
Just like the dc05 i have the dc07 has a thermal cut out switch that protects the motor from overheating, you can read about it in the troubleshooting section of the manual. As above wash out the filters and let them dry completely for 12 hours on a warm radiator and replace. Just like puting your hand over the air intake on the back of a hairdryer which overheats the motor the dirty filters slow the air that also cools the motor resulting in the motor overheating and cutting out.

Hello mike
I had the same prob on mine, well not exaclty as mine worked for about 10mins then cut out. I removed the washable filter with water let it dry out near a warmed radiator for 12 hrs (as dyson recommends). I then cleaned the other filter by shaking it. Adding to that I removed the cyclone and jet washed it. You dont have to dismantle the cyclone completely just give it a thorough wash with a shower head or jet wash as i did.Ensure you shake all the water out and let it dry completey (not sure about dysons opinion on that). Suprisingly there was masses of dirt inside mine DCo7 "Animal"cyclone part. I then put it all back together and its been working ever since without stopping. Hope you have as much luck as i did.
