you can download service pack2 from www.microsoft.com and visit the downloads section- only do this if you have fast broadband connection. Or if you in the uk, pop into PC world and pickup a CD free of charge if they have some in stock. goto the customer services area.
From your description it sounds lke your USB ports may well be working- they either all work or dont. I think you just need to install your printer driver- software for your printer. Refer to user manual supplied with your printer or read documentation from the Cd's supplied with your printer. If you do not have the software for the printer, you can visit the manufacturs website and download the printer drivers for your printer model.

JUST ONE MORE QUESTION WHERE DO I GET THE XP SERVICE PACK2 AS I HAVE MANAGED TO GET ONE USB PORT TO WORK AND SOUND TO THE SPEAKERS BUT HAVE TWO USB PORTS AND MY PRINTER IS CONNECTED TO THE OTHER BUT NOT WORKING WILL NOT RECIEVE INSTRUCTIONS TO PRINT

Once you have installed the chipset drivers, the software for the usb will be automatically installed

ok- if you have hardware devices, such as printer,scanner attached to the usb ports, you may well being prompted for the software for these items. If not install XP service Pack 2 , to see if this will provide the USB drivers. If this still fails then you need to know the make and model of your PC's motherbaord and then obtain chipset drivers, that will include USB drivers for your PC. Hope this helps.

in answer to pc answer operating sys is xp and it has found them but needs drivers how and were do i get them and how do i install them

Not enough information provided to give you an answer. What operating system do you have on your PC, (win98,me,2000, XP)

If you have win2000/xp it should autodetect the ports.
