What is wrong with my TV?

Hi Lee,
Thanks for your reply, its a colour tv, it has an aerial in the loft which has been connected to the tv for the last two years with no problem, its only in the last week I have noticed the problem.
Ive also noticed that when I press the power button on the set a red indicator light comes on then turns green when you select a programme, now when you press the power button the red light flashes on off then stays on, may just be coincidence, just thought I would add it.

Sounds like a 'hum bar'. Is this a colour or a B&W tv?

If you are using an indoor aerial, try it with a roof aerial. If that cures the problem it is due to the indoor aerial being affected by the 50Hz mains supply in the house. If that is so, it is not a fault, just one of those things that can happen with an indoor aerial.
