Mend Panasonic Fuse Working Suddenly

Panasonic DMR-E55 PSU fuse keeps blowing?

This DVD was working perfectly until recently, when it suddenly failed to switch on. Checked external fuse (OK), but 2 Amp internal PSU fuse had blown. Replaced it and blew immediately. No signs of overheating on PSU. (I have read that the STRG 6353 overheats, causing problems.) Haven't removed this yet. Anyone with similar problems?

Hi, You may find the STRG 6353 has gone short circuit and blown completely. There is a filter capacitor across the mains. This could also have gone short circuit. If you have a test meter, you could check the dc resistance across the capacitor on the circuit side of the internal fuse (opposite end to the mains side). Try the test leads both ways around. If the reading is very low or short, take out the capacitor and measure it out of circuit. There are also various diodes that could have gone short circuit. These are easy to test with a meter. Using the resistance range, you should get a reading with the leads around one way but not the other. If you get readings both ways around, the diode has blown. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN WORKING IN THIS AREA, AND DO NOT TOUCH A THING IF YOU'RE NOT CONFIDENT IN YOUR OWN ABILITY. MAINS VOLTAGES CAN KILL YOUR EQUIPMENT AND YOU!
