reduce pressure on combi?

when i bled my radiators at the weekend it emptied the boiler. So i used the loop thing to fill it again. Problem now is that when it's running the system pressure gauge has the maximum pressure reading possible, 4 bar! To relieve the pressure do i just bleed some water out of the radiators and bring it down to 1 bar? Or do i need to pump air into the expansion vessel?

It's a Worcester Bosch 240 Combi RSF. Previously i was having problems with the thermostat cutting the pilot light after the (very) hot water was running for a while.
thanks

There was water coming back in via the loop. I was able to drain the boiler quickly by using the pressure release valve, then i could hear the water coming in and fiddle with the valve screw to close it.

Thanks Stephen. Have done lots of bleeding, but the pressure either doesn't go down, or it goes down and then back up. Looks like there's water getting in somewhere, hopefully it's just the loop valve (tho' i suspect it's something bigger inside), I'm going to try disconnecting the top end of the loop hose (if i can) when i get home to see if there's water coming thru there.

You're correct in just bleeding some water from the system via a drain off or radiator.
