Yep, we had exactly the same problem with our Hotpoint First Edition WM11P. Get the new brushes from a domestic appliance parts store (Ours cost £12 after ringing around).
Access to removing one of the brushes was easy. To get to the other one, some folk have said to remove the motor. I disagree. To do this was a bit too daunting for me, as you've got to consider the tension of the belt etc. Far easier, simpler, and quicker to remove the concrete off the top of the drum, then you've got perfect access. P.S. My DIY knowledge is limited (i.e. first time in a washing machine !!), and I managed to do it without a problem.
