service engine light comes on after driving a few miles and stays on. Car has been serviced up to date.

The computer has seen a problem ans is trying to tell you it needs corrected ///....car service is not the problem.
You could try disconnecting the batery and see if problem was intermittent other wise you`ll need to hook up a diagnostic tool to see what code it has set.
