Mend Clock Wheel Fine

How can I fix my grandfather clock?

The chain on the middle chain wheel is hung. How can I get to it to fix it? This is a grandfather clock. The chains on the left and right are fine. The middle one is hanging all the way down with the hook that should hold the weight up out of sight. The chain will not move. Getting to it seems to be the problem.

Look on the back of the clock. There is a square board with a couple of screws. Remove it. Now look toward the top of the back and there is the 'sound' board. Remove the screws on each end of the board and remove the sound board with the sound tines. Look toward the front of the clock and remove the plywood backing to the face. Now look down onto the works and see two screws holding the works in place. Remove those screws and the works should slide out. Remove the weights from the chains first. I use a bread twist tie to tie the chains together after removing the weights but not really necessary. Now you can fix the chain problem. Good Luck.
