Has anyone tried to replace a DVD Recorder with a Hard Drive?

I have a SONY DVD Recorder RDR-GX3, i am thinking of changing the DVD drive into a hard drive. Has anyone tried this?

Not sure why you think that it will work. The physical interface may be the same (IDE?) but the DVD recorder's OS will need to support hard drives and why would any manufacturer put unnecessary code into the box.
