Mend Door Locks Automatically

front door locks automatically when closed?

i have a front door that when closed it needs a key to open it while pulling the handle and pushing it downwards from outside
internally it can be opened by pushing the handle down

what needs to be done to change it to a normal lock where the key is needed to lock it every time and the door is free to open inside or out

It is probably a split spindle so take the handles off and check. It is possible you may need to get new handles too but it should be achievable.
