The part that AA referred to is called a degaussing positor, it allows a momentary current to flow through the degaussing coil to offset the effects of the Earths' magnetic field. If the fault got worse gradually then it is likely the positor is at fault. If the fault just appeared suddenly then I would suggest the yoke around the tube neck could be at fault. Neither of these repairs should be attempted by anyone other than a qualified engineer.
