goverment report on these, highly dangerous!
nah only joking if their was a report on them they'd be highly sh*t. formatting a good idea, but lose all songs. and when mines breaking once a week it just aint worth it nemore.
get rid of it!

To fix this, you'll need to connect it to a Windows PC using the USB cable and format it. (I tried with Ubuntu Linux but it failed). My player showed up as the E:\ drive so I ran "format e:" from a command prompt. (It would not format from windows explorer). Once format is complete, the unit will work but all music will have to be reloaded.

Best wishes,

Gosh, the same has happened to me and it is extremely annoying, how do I change it to FAT format, like you are saying?

my friend bought 2 of these for her children. one started behaving badly (skipping through songs) within a few days. she took it back to argos only to be told they are not in stock any more ( even though it is listed in the new catalogue) and she could only have a credit note for the sale price. half what she payed for it.
a week later the other did the same so i took it and formatted it no problem in windows. no special program needed. it's working fine for the time being but there is obviously a design fault with this product. i have tried to contact the company via there website but it appears to be down at the minute.
when i do get in touch with them i will have several rather impolite words for them if they refuse to do anything about it.
i'll keep you posted.
if anyone else has any luck, i'd be interested to know.

i have a 1gb pink one, dont know what specific model it is, but all of a sudden my computer doesnt recognise it and when i try and play the thing, it skips certain songs and cuts off on others that are half way through and also skips through some others really quickly, like wen you play a cd and want to skip ahead!!! it worked fine until today and i ve had it a year!!! grrr!!! now i ll have to buy a new one!!! i would suggest to just get a new one. i would rather do that than do lots of techno stuff really!

I also have the 1GB splash proof version of this and when I switch it on it starts playing a song then half way through it will turn its self off, I've changed the battery and then it will play for my journey into work about 15mins and then I'll turn it off and when I turn it back on for my journey home it will then turn its self of again after less than a minute, but then I won't be able to turn it on again unless I take the battery out and then put it back in again but then it will just turn its self off again after less than a minute and so on and so on.

My friend had the same problem.... the songs started not playing although some would (Very strange) so i said that i would look into it for her...

I pluged it into the laptop to be told that it was unreadable so i though i would format(I formated it in FAT32) it which made it work in the fact that i could add the files from the pc to it and it was all fine until i tried to play it and was told no files... Grr...

reading a few comments here made want to try just a quick format in standard FAT and not... i repeat not FAT32.... copied one file across so i could see if that did the trick which it did!

Yep that is how it worked for me format in plain old FAT...

hope that helps people

Sorry Mabel, guess what? I have a 512MB version of the splashproof player which has gone a similar way. I cannot read/write to PC and the player says there are no files and no internal memory. I still have the receipt so it's back to Argos for a refund.
