Can I Use A Roller To Apply Varnish To A Ceiling ?

I have a pine ceiling in need of varnishing, would it be posible to apply the varnish using a roller, if so what type of roller and what would be the best type of varnish?
Took so long last time with a brush, thought this would speed things up a little.

best bet it to use a foam roller same as is used to apply gloss

a shot pile one would do it or better still use a pad
