RE: clutch assembly # 9704230... is it worth fixing??

I can't believe that there are this many people that have had this same problem. I've had this blender for less than 2 yrs and
couldn't believe that it broke that easily. My old Oster's lasted for 10 years or more. the only thinng I had to change were the blades becasue they got dull now and then. But to see that the clutch had rubber tips on it that sheered off in one night made me wish I hadn't ever bought it. I've been trying to find the replacement part (I found it by doing a search) and then I found this and other sites and finding out that there are way too many others that have had the same problem. My question is,,, Should I order the part and replace the old or replace the whole blender with a different model or brand? It seems that with this many having the same problem, that it's not going to be a "one time fix" and I can expect it to happen again in a year or two..

The part is what is called sacrificial. It means the rubber clutch will break so other things do not. It is like a fuse. So buy a few, repair yours and have some spares.

Only you can answer that question for yourself, but my answer is yes. I too have a KitchenAid blender that the coupling #9704230 has gone cuput. I have ordered the part through www.sears3.com and paid about $14 after shipping and handling. Found a link that tells you exactly how to replace the part http://mendingshed.stores.yahoo.net/kacoupling.html and am just waiting on the part to arrive. I love my blender because it has the stainless steel jar and considering it was $150 blender and only $14 to fix - I think it is well worth it.
