Removing instrument cluster from Frontera?

The instruments on my 2000 Frontera 2.2 Ltd are behaving erratically. Could this be caused by loose wiring or maybe cracked circuit board? How do I remove the cluster in order to check what's going on behind it?

Hiya mate. I have got the exact same problem & I have taken out the clocks. Unfortunately there are no user serviceable parts on the cluster. All the dials are driven by small pcb mounted servo motors. The only connections that could possibly cause a problem are the thick solder covered connections, (the others are just ribbon-cable type connectors for the panel lamps etc). New clocks are approx. £350.00.

Hi Jez. I was in the same position as you! Getting the cluster out is simpler than it looks. 1st remove 2 screws that fasten the plastic cover under the steering wheel which are easily seen along with 2 screws that fasten the bonnet release lever to a metal bracket behind. You will need to prise it away from the footwell trim at the RHS there is also a plastic push clip that will come out from the back of the footwell. 2nd. There are 3 or 4 screws along the bottom of the dashboard cover moulding that need removing along with 2 that go vertically upward from inside the instrument recess. Carefull prise the dash moulding away starting at the right hand side unclipping the various switch connectors as you go. Eventually you will need to slide the whole moulding to the right as there is a clip that goes under the central dashboard moulding. It should then come away. 3rd. You will see 4 screws holding in the instrument cluster itself - 2 to the left and 2 to the right. Undo these and the cluster comes forward. Do this carefully as you will need to release the various edge connectors at the rear of the cluster as you do this. Et viola! you have now got it out.
