machine letting in to hot water can it be fixed?

just bought an aquarious 1000 de luxe second hand hot and cold fill type.set it on 40 degree for none colourfast wash. the water came in far to hot,we checked the cold fill pipe was attatched. what can we do? or have we purchased yet another faulty machine .water came in cold ok though for the rinse stages. it has the letters WM25 as well on the machine.
