How can I fix my leaking toilet?

I have a leak down the back of my close coupled toilet removed lid and flushed toilet disaster water spurted up to cieling is this normal

I have recently installed a new flush system to my push button toilet and everytime it is flushed water leaks from the bottom on the system onto the pan
Can anyone help

I just fixed mine - it had a perpetual leak into the pan.

As suggested, I grasped the unit at the bottom, short turn anti-clockwise, removed it.

The connecting lever from the handle to the section that carries the washer at the bottom was set so it wouldn't let the washer drop fully and create a seal.

I moved the lever up one hole and this did the trick.

After replacing the rubber donut on a close coupling toilet it is leaking, tried fitting the donut ring both ways but once the cistern fills up it leaks. Any suggestions please?

My problem was water flowing into bowl after cistern had filled. So annoying hearing cistern refilling at night. After pulling out piston assembly (no screws) I saw the washer on the outlet was twisted and broken. Took it out and replaced assembly. No new washer required as sealant had been used on the outside of the pipe by some vagrant (?). That fixed it.

The cistern is leaking from the back down below it's not from the valve.

I thought i might of had a crack in the cistern but can't find one.

You need a new outlet valve unit. I had the same problem but that fixed it. Try CME at their Doncaster factory. (via website) I found them very helpful.

Odd, would think if anything the rush of water into the toilet would make less noise. I'm assuming you mean the cold water to the wash hand basin rather than the bath? What kind of noise is it making?

Diane, lifting the float arm up stops the flow of water. Sounds like you may have some debris partially blocking the inflow from the inlet pipe into the cistern. I would have alternatively suggested looking at your pressure washer but I don't know how long you have had this problem.

If you have a service valve along the inlet pipe turn it to close off the supply to the cistern and you can detach the whole float valve asssembly from the cistern using an adjustable wrench or water pliers.

My toilet is contantly making the noise it makes after a flush. Ive lifed the lid off and looked into where the water tank is with the float. Ive found that if i lift the float with my hand, the noise stops but when i place it into water again the fluching noise contiues. Ive had a very expensive water bill and can only presume its down to this constant flow off water, im a bit worried incase this is willl cost me a small fortune to fix, can be easily mended. please help?

I assume this is a close coupled cistern & pan. Not screwed to the wall rather screwed to the pan so not the screw holes at the back (as in low or high level systems). If the leak comes down the back it's either from the housing of the flush button on the top or from the cistern lid itself. Both of which smacks of too much water coming in. Is the siphon adjusted to 6ltrs or more?

if you read the question again

you'll see it's still running after toilet flushed, so has nothing to do with float level being set to high.

your cistern fittings are made so if it fills to much it will over flow into your toilet not like the old way of using a seperate pipe to over flow into. so what you will need to do is open your cistern look for the float. the float will rise after a flush. this is what needs adjustment

my screws have nothing todo with the leak they don't enter the cistern they are on a plate.
so hows the water getting to them.

A common fault with the push button systern. The two screws that fix the systern to the pan leak, remove the systern undo the nuts from the underneath, wind some PTFE tape around the thread close to the systern, then screw the nuts back up, this will make a seal from the threaded screws to the systern.
I have cured this many, many times, the water finds its way down the threads, flushing will not cure it.

the flush unit is not shutting fully. at the bottom of the unit is a rubber seal washer which over time gets limescaled up and wears.
if you hold the unit half way down and turn it, it comes apart and you can see the rubber seal.
