Mend Kenmore Canister Model

Kenmore canister model #116 25615506 won't turn off?

The controls are in the handle. Off/floor/carpet. However, shortly after buying it, it won't turn off! I'm wondering if I should just replace the hose and handle.

Mine had the same problem. It was about two years old. I fixed it by replacing the circuit board assembly, which had a blown triac (component on the board). Sears replacement part number KC86WBZRZ000. No special tools or soldering required.

I have the same vacuum and it has developed the same problem. I wonder if this is a design defect? Mine was purchased one year ago.

That problem is most likely a faulty circuit board in the canister. See if it still runs with the hose disconnected. If so, definately the P.C.B. Hose problems usually don't happen early in life with the Kenmores, and you have the standard hose without electronics, even less likely for problems. Get it repaired under the warrenty, the complete assembly is around 80 to 100, and unless you know how to work on the hose, it can't be serviced by the consumer. More questions?
