02 Zafira car alarm has started going off erratically?

ive just bought an 02 zafira cleaned inside and out alarm started going off but stopped when I started her up. back to cleaning engine off again the alarm im stumped now though because battery dead and jump leads attached alarm burst into action again but now car wont start at all av I dislodged a wire somewhere for god sake ive only cleaned it

I have the same problem, alarm goes offivefound thef32 fuse blown and I've took the power sounder under the drivers side wheel arch I've took out and now lost for idears

I have removed the second siren from the wheel arch and it worked for a while but now it has started to go off again. I tried the fuse but didn't work for me so for a temporary solution I have disconnected the alarm horn located under the grill just under the centre of the wind screen wipers. Ok it still goes off but at least no sound just flash lights.

Had intermittent alarm on a zafira elegance 2002, tried all the suggestion. Then wife mentioned that the one touch window switch was not working(ie.auto window close on drives door window )rectified switch by rocking backward and forwards this seem to fix the alarm fault.

i Have the year 2000 model, Just take out red 10amp fuse Number (32) from under the steering wheel fuse box, you then have no second lock on the car, no anti theft alarm...but if the cars old what does it matter? If you have a theft just put the fuse back in!

Generally it is the backup alarm located under the drivers wheel arch, the unit has rechargeable batteries that fail with age. You can remove it if you disable the alarm before and disconnect the battery

replace your sounder that is located in the front wing behind the wheel trim. This resolved my faulty and will resolve your 100%

also check the rear quouter light windows Alarm break glass tape is not broken you can bridge them out there is a cable connector feeding them located behind trim

We lost the coded key to our zafira and had a key coder come out to do a replacement, he came and he couldn't do it as the horn alarm keeps going off he suggested removing the "power sounder" which we did and then we called the AA and they coded a new key yet we still cannot get the horn alarm to be quiet, it goes off as soon as we plug the battery in, even the AA were stumped

Does anyone have any ideas

I also had this problem, alarm going off in the middle of the night. I tried everything I could think of and the only way to silence it was to leave the car unlocked over night. I took it the next day to a local garage.
They said they could not find anything wrong with it and it was fine all day. I drove it home and after a couple of hours the alarm went off. I took off the O/S front wheel arch and removed the bracket with the sounder and unpluged it with the ignition on. The sound stopped and everything works fine. I still have an alarm with the main horn and lights flashing but at least I have happy neighbours. It's been three days since and not a sound. I did think of getting a new one but I won't bother the car is 10 year old.

Have 2000 model. Have used the back door closing rout over last 2 years, then pulling 4 fuses so no windows or radio, but now ( had the 4 beeps ) siren sounding at 3 in morning ( sorry neighbours - ended up driving car to none resisdential area until managed to switch off using key ) going to try to remove siren.

Definitely the power sounder battery inside need to get new ones or get a new siren. Cheapest option take it out behind the drivers side wheel arch but make sure the ignition is on when you take off the plug other wise 1to2 hours of siren noise.

Turn the ignition on then turn off and within 15secs disconnect the battery. Need to be quick or have an accomplice and worth loosening battery lead nut first. This technique is in the handbook.

disconnect the battery for 3 mins then reconnect it.it worked for me,then you will find the radio needs the code numbers to get that going best of luck

I am having the same problem inermitant alarm sounding. I took it to vauxhall who charged me £70 to have it put on the computer. The say it is the pane sensors in both my rear quarter windows that are damaged. They wanted £650 to replace both windows!!!!. Is there a simple fix for this such as removing the connectors to the windows and just bridging the 2 wires together??

Everyone keeps asking the same question. How tdo I disable the alarm and everyone keeps saying how to repair! I dont want the alarm, its a 10 year old car if someone nicks it great, I dont keep valuables in the car, but I still want to lock it! How do I remove/disable the alarm? Can it be done? Would it take a garage several days? I just want it removed!!!!!

Had the same problem as everyone else. Definitely down to the battery backup in the alarm sounder. After a week of random squealing and squeeking I disconnected it from under the aforementioned wheel-arch before the neighbours lynched me. Upon disconnection, it went off for about 5 minutes then died verifying my theory about the battery. I then bought a genuine Vx replacement on Ebay for £10, fitted it and it squeaked twice when connected. Now works perfectly, no costly programming involved, that is a myth put about by Vx to screw more money out of us.

My 2002 Zafira's alarm has just started going off approx. 20 mins after locking. Having read a number forums it seems there can be two main types of false alarms - 1. sounder under drivers wheel arch plus horn, 2. sounder only.

If sounder only (no horn) it is likely to be the sounder's batteries failing. A new sounder is the main fix, it needs Vauxhall to reset it and costs a lot.

If sounder and horn (like mine is) then there is another fault with the alarm system and the whole alarm is triggering. Could be the bonnet switch (a known problem), main battery, rear window alarm connections, or ultra-sonic movement senors.

I have tried turning off the ultra-sonic movement sensors (press both front interior light buttons until alarm LED flashes) and alarm has not gone off yet - but alarm LED is also not flashing with alarm on (and it should), so not sure what is happening. I am sure the actual cause will cost loads to fix once I find it.

I had the same problem while on holiday. Eden vauxhall in Exeter fixed replaced the siren on 18/06/2010 at a cost of £188.73. You cannot take out the fuse because of all the other things that the fuse covers like the ignition switch ect. It will still sound the siren if you disconnect the battery. if the alarm is left switched off the siren will still sound until the backup battery runs down after about 2hours. while my zafira is 9 years old it has only done 30,000 miles, it looks like new, drives like new so i will be findind out how to do this repair myself if it happens again.i have had one replaced during warranty,so this one lasted approx 7 years

Dave June 2010. Ours is a 2006 model. Tried many things (at 04.00 in the morning!). Only the alarm going off, no flashing lights or horn. Even disconnecting the battery terminals would not shut the ruddy thing up. In the end I disconnected both battery terminals and then re-connected the positive terminal. Tapped the negative lead against the negative stud terminal 3 or 4 times and it silenced the alarm. Tomorrow its off for scrap! Dont think the neighbours will speak again as it was going off for a couple of hours. Never again.

frank do what ive done with mine by taking the battery off for 15 seconds then replace it . that should reset it and stop the problem

Have 04 Zafira with alarm problem.Found that the glove compartment light switch had melted and intermittantly switched the light on and off when the alarm was activated

my right alarm flash its keep going flash in turn off my car :( what i can do i take the fuse its blue color ... and stop all lights in speed meter off :(( maybie the change of fuse corect the problem?? if i take it off and put in again in 10 minutes corect the problem???

unplug siren under drivers side wheel arch.alarm still works via horn and lights flash.problem is batteries in siren are low.new siren £34 on ebay or just leave it unplugged.this could make insurance claim through theft a bit dodgy but its up to you.

have the same problem so i have taken out the fuse to the alarm,so far (last 10mins no problem) i have 2002 zafira and the alarm fuse is f32, basically open the main fuse box and look for the number on the frame the fuse is on the rt on the end and is 10amps, the lights on the dash board still flash so that anyone looking in will think it's alarmed

The usual causes are :

Power Sounder - the batteries last about 2 years and when they fail, the alarm will go off. The unit is about £50, plus fitting.

Rear glass break sensors : if these get scratched, they appear to the alarm ecu that the window has been broken. They can be repaired for about £15 by windscreen type people.

Interior light/ultrasonic sensors : can give false triggers.

The vehicle battery - if it's getting tired, the alarm is known to malfunction. Always use a good quality battery. GM Dealers offer good deals on batteries, and their units are good quality.

Bonnet switch - known to malfunction in hot weather on darker colour cars (due to thermal expansion!).

They are an absolute pain in the rear. My wife has one, and we have removed/disabled most things as replacing them has had little effect. There is a way to completely disable the factory alarm, but this renders the deadlocks inactive, and could cause you insurace issues - unless you replace it with an aftermarket unit that exceeds the Thatcham Cat 1 spec that the factory alarm meets.

We had the same problem with a Zafira bought in 2000. We had the alarm fixed in 2003 for £130 (to replace alarm siren and reprogramme) and now it's happening again. Phil's solution of locking via the back offside door seems to work, so thanks for that! (The Vauxhall garage told me it wasn't possible to disable the alarm.)

I have the same problem. Get around it by opening the back offside door, reach around to the drivers door and lock from the inside. Shut the rear door and the car is locked with no alarm set.

u carnt switch it off, its the internal sounder with its own power supply located under the offside front wheel arch, the sounder battery goes faulty so it thinks there is a problem so goes off intermitently. 150 to fix at the dealers.
