how do you set the clock on a panasonic KX-TG2583W phone/answer machine?

The following process/logic is how just about all the programing is set up on this system. So you can apply it to other functions like the remote code/ direct dial button / length of message and so on. Just don't be afraid to navigate through the menu's to see what features are offered. It is a very nice system. The programing is just odd in that you must use the handset and base unit together in order to accomplish one task.
Quick tips:
> You will need to sit near the base unit and hold the handset so you can see both displays.
> Be sure the volume is turned up on the base unit. It makes it easier when setting the date and time.
> You need to use the buttons on the handset to program the time and other functions on the base unit / answering machine.
> The CH button is the "function" button (sits above the 1)
> The arrows are in the handset's center blue button
Simple steps:
1)press CH button on handset
2)press down arrow 2 times on handset to get to PROGRAM
3)press right arrow on handset for YES
4)press down arrow 5 times to get to TAD
5)press right arrow on handset for YES (look at base unit display, it gives you number prompts for a variety of PROGRAM options
6)press 0 on handset for DAY AND TIME (look at base unit display to see that the *key = AM/PM and the #key = DAY of week
7)push the number buttons on the handset's keypad to set the correct time
8)use the handset's *key to select AM/PM
9)use the handset's #key to select the DAY of the week
10)when you see and hear the correct DAY AND TIME on the base unit: Press right arrow on handset for SAVE.
Good for you! Do it a few times and you will never forget it.
