This is a tricky one. Through various bits and pieces from other sites around I eventually worked this one out.
To get access to the power flex you need to remove the switch first. If you look at the following link:
http://www.vacuumcleaners4u.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=94_98_145&products_id=5430
you will notice that the switch is flat on one side with a clip at the bottom. You will need a very small screwdriver or similar to push this clip in and remove. There is a small square hole right beside the correct side of the switch. This is where you must push the screwdriver into.
There is a tool available for about £5 (gbp) but I would grudge paying it if you already have a screwdriver small enough to get down the side (warning you will mark the plastic casing doing this (not wise if still under warranty).
Once the switch is out there is a star headed screw (security/anti vandal type - not phillips cross head or allen key) which must be removed. Once that is out you can lift the whole power unit out and solve your own problem. Mine was only a connector that had come loose which was easily pushed back on. Glad I didn't witness Dyson doing this on call out and charging me £70 for what turned out to be half an hours research and work combined.
Good Luck
