Mend Opel Zafira Fan Switch Heater Works

Problem with 4 speed fan switch?

The heater demister fan which has 4 speeds now only works on the fastest speed. The other three 1,2,,3 dont blow any air at all. I ve had a quick look and it looks as if there is some kind of electronic unit attached to the control switch behind. Could it be the switch unit it self has had it, or is it something else. The fan works very well on speed 4 and the cabin filter has been checked and is not blocked (replaced a few months ago). All known fuses checked and OK
Its an Opel Zafira 2.0 DTi 2001.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Went to Vauxhall main dealer and bought a new heater blower resistor this morning £19.95 + vat . Fitted it myself and hey presto the fan now works on all speeds. Nice one George many thanks for the advise.

Heater blower resistor. I've changed a couple in the past (different models), usually located behind glove box (small disc shape). Not expensive. That's if a diesel heater set up is the same as a petrol engined car? I presume so. This forum may help:- http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=83
