If people are still having problems with there Carl Lewis all you need to do is in screw the top casing where the motor is then ul see the motor on the left hand side there will be a silver bracket with 2 screws which is holding the sensor unscrew and unplug from the board and if there liquid on it clean it with propasol and make sure no liquid left on the sensor and put it back together then you will be all good hopefully need this explaining call 07851853653

hi karl,
my wife has a carl lewis treadmill MOT566, and she is experiencing problems as follows, she will be using it for around 5 minutes and then without warning it speeds up higher than maximum speed? also a code keeps appearing on the console e03. this is very dangerous and she has nearly come off it a few times, is it a design fault and can it be fixed by what you explained as in cleaning the motor? hope to hear from you soon,
regards Aaron.

Incline sensor may be faulty, or mechanism may be jammed. Try cleaning the motor and /or replacing the sensor, if does not work, have to replace the incline motor

I bought an used treadmill (Proform 635CS). Its incline stuck at highest point. Every time I plug the key in, the incline motor made some noise and seemed the motor tried without moving.

If in this situation, the motor is not dead. It is stuck or jammed.

This is what I did:

1) I took the power cord off from power.

2) I took a cover off from the bottom of machine, so you can access the motor.

3) I unscrewed the bolt on one of end on the incline motor. At this end, it is usually a big screw like a shaft.

4) tried to make this screw turn. Mine is jammed, so it was not that easy to loose. I tried hard in both direction, so finally the shaft can be turned freely.

5) Without putting the motor back, connect all power back like normal, then put key into machine and tried to go up or down on incline motor. the more turned and worked like normal.

6) Then took of power cord from wall again and I put the motor back on the machine like I took it out. Then reconnected power to try, it works fine.

After I solve the problem, the incline motor got jammed again, then I repeat above steps with a big screw adjustment (loosing or tighten about 1/2 turn, it depends). Now the incline works fine.

SO my $50 bought used treadmill works like new.

Hope it will help.

You don't say what treadmill you have or what exactly is happening when you press the incline button, but in general there could be two main problems; 1. the incline motor and mechanism is clogged with dust and needs cleaning out, or 2. the incline mechanism is damaged and needs replacing.

The answer above assumes that the motor is trying to incline the treadmill but can't for some reason. If the motor isn't even trying to incline then the control board could be at fault.

To clean the incline mechanism you need to unplug the machine from the wall, remove the motor cover, and carefully clean round the inside of the motor bay with a vacuum cleaner. Be very careful not to damage or move any of the components inside as they can be quite fragile.
You should see a large motor that runs the main running belt and another smaller motor (sometimes pointing downwards - depends on the machine) with a large (1 inch+ in diameter) screw thread coming out of it. That screw thread is the incline mechanism which links to the base of the machine. If it's clogged with dust and carpet fibres it will jam the incline motor - it needs to be kept clean.

Without knowing the exact model it is difficult to give specific instructions, but the general problem with most treadmills is lack of maintenance.

Hope that helps.
