Singer sewing machine is stuck on reverse?

I have a 1425 with the same problem and I just figured out what's wrong. I also had to remove the pannel to oil the mechanism, but I discoverd that what was causing it to get stuck was that when I switched from a straight stitch to a zig-zag stitch, I didn't give the manual sewing knob a few turns towards me to make one or two manual stiches before switching back to the petal. Now I give it one or two manual stitches after switching between straight and zig-zag and that prevents the problem.

don't use wd40 it is actually a cleaning agent, not for lubrication. It will work for a little while, but then dry out and you will have the problem all over again. make sure you use an oil from the sewing machine shop

It does happen but not very often, usually it is because the reverse button gets stuck in because there is no oil on the mechanism, you need to take the end panel off to see the mechanism or the top of the machine off, with the top of the machine off preferably check inside to make sure no screws have come loose on the reverse mechanism, you will soon see it, try some WD40 which is a very thin oil and give it a try, make sure the plug is out of the machine before you go inside the machine, any problems let me know, I can't picture this model at the moment, are you in the US ?
