using an aston cam card in the common interface slot on a panasonic viera 42" plasma,can i buy a smart card which enables me to view encrypted freeview channels ?

The encrypted channels are not FreeView (FreeView is Free To Air.) they are TopUp TV and Setanta. You need to talk the to companies concerned to see if your setup will decrypt their stuff.
