Can i put in and use my car stereo with i pod adapter in my Peugeot 206?

I just ask the same on the dealer.. and they told me that you can do this only if you buy an special adapter that works with some radios... Also they told me if I don´t get the adapter I will lose the functinality of the steering wheel and the screen at least for rdio functions.
